Mr. Moffitt has 39 years of Gulf Coast experience generating oil and gas properties with expertise in all phases of geology and geophysics, land and drilling. Mr. Moffitt founded Gateway Exploration, LLC as its President and CEO. Gateway has been active in the Eagle Ford Shale in which it had non-operated interests with EOG and BHP (Petrohawk) and in the Smackover in Alabama and Mississippi. Prior to forming Gateway, Mr. Moffitt was a Partner in Union Gas from 1995 – 2010. While with Union Gas, Mr. Moffitt was responsible for all phases of geology and geophysics, and participated in the drilling of over 175 wells in the Wilcox, Frio and Yegua trends South and Southeast Texas which yielded a combined EUR of 450 billion cubic feet of gas and 9 million barrels of oil and gas liquids have been proved. Before joining Union Gas, Mr. Moffitt worked as a generating geologist for Yuma Petroleum, Williams Exploration, Citation Oil & Gas, Santa Fe Energy and Phillips Petroleum.
Mr. Moffitt has held leadership positions including Chairman for SIPES Houston Chapter (Society for Independent Professional Earth Scientists) and a Trustee for AAPG. Mr. Moffitt has a B.S. in Geology from Ohio State University (1975) and an M.S. in Geology from San Jose State (1977).
Mr. Jochetz has over 40 years of upstream experience in the oil and gas industry with an emphasis on assembling and developing exploration prospects and managing producing properties along the entire Gulf Coast and South and Southeast Texas. In 2009 he joined Jay Moffitt in forming Gateway Exploration, LLC, and currently serves as Executive Vice President. Since inception, Gateway has concentrated its exploration and development efforts in the Eagle Ford Shale primarily in Karnes, DeWitt and Gonzales Counties, Texas, along with conventional geologic plays in Southeast Texas, Louisiana and Alabama. Prior to the formation of Gateway, Mr. Jochetz was Vice President of Land for Hanson Production Company and its affiliated companies from 1987-2009, with a primary focus on the pressured Wilcox, Frio and Yegua in South and Southeast Texas. Mr. Jochetz began his career with Rutherford Oil Corporation in Houston in 1976 and subsequently served as Land Manager for Guardian Oil Company and Prior Exploration Company before co-founding Gulf Coast Prospectors, Inc. which had a joint venture with BHP Petroleum (USA) from 1982-1986 and served as BHP’s primary Gulf Coast exploration team during that period of time.
Mr. Jochetz is a 1976 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Petroleum Land Management and is a member of the AAPL, HAPL and HGS.
